Innovation in the Birthplace of Fiberoptics

INCOM, Inc. was founded in 1971 in Southbridge, MA, by J. Wilbur Hicks, the innovator and founder of the fiberoptic industry. Visitors to our two manufacturing facilities (now down the road from Southbridge in Charlton, MA) are amazed to see solid glass become so fluid it pulls like taffy, eventually being drawn into millions of tiny fibers: A 1” round, 1” thick fiberoptic inverter can contain over one million feet of glass with 16 million fibers per square inch!

World Leader in Commercial Fused Fiberoptics

INCOM customers are manufacturers of leading edge instruments and systems that incorporate rigid, fused fiberoptics. As a result, these customers have made INCOM the world's largest provider of commercial fused fiberoptics.

Our product range is the broadest in the industry, with faceplates and tapers ranging from 2mm to 200mm in diameter and using 25 material combinations. In fact, it was INCOM’s patented furnace technology that led to the 200mm taper--the largest in the world. Our latest innovations--for example, glass microstructures such as microwell plates and microcapillary array plates--open the door to a number of new applications in digital imaging, biometrics, and the life sciences.

Fiberoptic Solutions With Innovative Technology

INCOM’s manufacturing facilities are state-of-the-art, with teams that order 100 tons of glass at a time and draw over two billion miles of fiber per year. We employ highly-trained assemblers and leading engineers in order to keep advancing fiberoptic technology and meeting our customers’ needs. This capability means we're more than a supplier--we're also a true partner to our customers. We offer product development services, product consignments, and just-in-time delivery.

We invite you to visit our facilities, see our advanced processes, talk with development engineers, and find innovative solutions to your component requirements. Contact us to discuss partnership opportunities or to arrange a visit.
